Boeing Puget Sound well-positioned for Defense Sec. Panetta's 'Air-Sea' strategy
As the Department of Defense hones its new "Air-Sea Battle" strategy for the future, The Boeing Co.’s Puget Sound production, and Boeing nationally, are well-positioned in comparison with other large defense aerospace contractors. In particular, Boeing’s work building P-8A submarine surveillance aircraft, a variant of the Boeing 737, will generate $29.2 billion from fiscal 2010 through fiscal 2016, said Ron Stearns, research director of aerospace consultancy G2 Solutions LLC. Feats of Clay competition canceled
Feats of Clay will not make it to its 25th year. Feats of Clay XXV had been scheduled this year for April 28 through May 27. But it appears the show will not go on. The national ceramic arts and sculpture competition was a regional draw, as the art was displayed inside the massive honeycomb kilns at the Gladding McBean terra-cotta factory in Lincoln. Lincoln Arts, the nonprofit that puts on the competition, said the event has been retired.

Report: Erickson Air-Crane IPO delayed
Erickson Air-Crane’s initial public offering, which was expected next week, has been postponed, according to IPO advisory firm Renaissance Capital. Greenwich, Conn.-based Renaissance — which serves as an advisory firm on IPOs and also tracks the market — said the Portland-based heavy-lift helicopter manufacturer and operator had postponed the offering on Wednesday. The firm had earlier said Erickson’s IPO would hit the market sometime next week. Renaissance principal Kathleen Smith said they were unable to provide any insight as to why the IPO was postponed...

New copper mine could create hundreds of jobs
The old copper, silver and gold mining town of Hillsboro in south-central New Mexico could see its fortunes rise again, thanks to plans to restart the 50-year-old Copper Flat Mine. The mine, located about 20 miles southwest of Truth or Consequences near Hillsboro, operated briefly in the 1980s, but has lain dormant since then. In spring 2011, New Mexico Copper Corp. bought the rights to the entire property from George Lotspeich, a prospector in his 80s who originally discovered the copper and other deposits in the 1950s, said Copper Corp...

LaCrosse sales fall 16% in Q4 on drop in military orders
LaCrosse Footwear Inc. on Thursday reported a 16 percent drop in fourth quarter revenue, in part due to reduced demand from the U.S. military. The Portland-based boot-maker (NASDAQ: BOOT) reported a profit of $2.2 million, or 33 cents per share, on $43.8 million in sales for the quarter. A year earlier, it had a profit of $4 million, or 60 cents per share, on $52.1 million in sales.
